The Ultimate Moving Checklist for Your Acadiana Move
A move has a hundred moving parts, and the stress usually comes from doing them all at once. Spread the work across a few weeks and moving day gets a whole lot calmer. Here’s a simple checklist built for an Acadiana move.
4 weeks out
- Set your date and, if you’re hiring movers or a truck, book them now — summer and the first of the month fill up fast.
- Reserve your moving boxes. Book your totes so they’re on your porch when you’re ready to start.
- Start purging. Keep a donate bin going in every room. Less stuff, fewer boxes, cheaper move.
- Measure big furniture and doorways at the new place so nothing surprises you.
2 weeks out
- Start packing the stuff you don’t use daily — off-season clothes, books, decor, the garage.
- Label as you go. Write the room on the side of each tote, not the top, so you can read it when they’re stacked.
- Change your address with USPS, and update your bank, insurance, and subscriptions.
- Confirm utilities — schedule the shutoff at the old place and turn-on at the new one.
The week of
- Pack an “open first” tote: coffee maker, chargers, toilet paper, a change of clothes, basic tools. Load it last so it comes off first.
- Finish the kitchen and everyday items a day or two before.
- Keep a towel by each door — Louisiana weather doesn’t check your calendar.
Moving day
- Load heavy totes on the bottom of the dolly, light on top, and roll them three high.
- Do a final walk-through of every closet, cabinet, and the attic.
- Keep valuables and documents with you, not on the truck.
- Relax about the boxes — when you’re unpacked, we come pick the totes up. No breaking down cardboard.
The one that saves your back
Every one of our packages includes a dolly, so you’re never carrying a stack of totes across the yard by hand. Delivered, picked up, and gone when you’re done.
